Helping you feel safe – our electrical safety check programme

Your home

Did you know electricity is the cause of over 20,000 accidental home fires in the UK?

As part of our on-going commitment to keep customers safe, we’ve recently partnered with PFL Electrical and The Wiggett Group, to carry out electrical checks, on things like plug sockets and fittings, in the homes we manage, every 5 years.

Tania Emery, Building Safety Director at A2Dominion, said: “Electrical fires are a real risk which can be prevented through a thorough home electrical safety inspection, which we offer as part of our on-going 5-year programme. It is important you respond when we get in touch with you to offer an appointment.

“We’re also encouraging all our customers to take extra care with electricals. Please always ensure you use the correct adapter and don’t overload plug sockets.”

How will I know if my safety check is due?

You’ll receive a letter from our contractors, PFL Electrical or The Wiggett Group, who are writing to all our customers, over the coming months, to introduce themselves. They’ll be in touch with you directly to arrange an appointment.

Examples of items we’ll check in your home include:

  • wiring
  • plug sockets
  • light fittings
  • fuse boxes
  • electric showers
  • extractor fans.

We’ll also check:

  • potential electrical shock risks
  • electrical fire hazards
  • electrical circuits and equipment are not overloaded.

We may also carry out any repairs works needed to bring your home up to the required standard. Please be reassured that if there are any serious urgent hazards in your home, we’ll make them safe before we leave.

What can I do to help?

There are things you can do to help us:

  • report electrical faults as soon as you spot a problem

  • allow access for repairs and safety inspections

  • make sure your own appliances are safe, for example, kettles and hairdryers don’t overload power circuits with multiple extension cables

  • report electrical faults as soon as you spot a problem you can carry out a visual safety check but don't try to do electrical repairs yourself.
