Last year, we supported 2,596 people who contacted our Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Service.
Our dedicated team of specialists are on hand to provide:
- practical and emotional advice and guidance, either face-to-face or via our helpline
- a safe place to flee and help to rebuild lives.
We also work in partnership with other organisations, such as Oxfordshire County Council and the Police, to keep our customers safe.
One of our customers, who lives in Oxfordshire, shares her experience of the support she received from our team to report her abuser to the Police.
She said: “I would like to tell you how much the support worker helped me to protect myself and my daughter. The most important thing for me was to feel supported and guided.
“Being very stressed and scared, I found it difficult to comprehend what was going on and come up with a plan. And this is where her help was crucial. My support worker came with me to visit the Police 3 times. The last time she stayed with me through the night. She provided me with valuable advice, a safety plan, and many other tips.”
What is domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse can take different forms, including:
- Physical abuse
- Sexual abuse
- Financial abuse
- Coercive control and gaslighting/emotional abuse
- Digital/online abuse
- ‘Honour-based’ violence
- Forced marriage.
Jane Clarges, Head of Operations at A2Dominion, added: “Domestic abuse is often hidden behind closed doors, and we understand how hard it can be for victims to reach out. The first step in escaping an abusive situation is realising you’re not alone and it is not your fault. You don’t have to wait for an emergency to find help.
“If domestic abuse is happening to you, it is important to tell someone. You can speak to any of our staff who will be discreet and sensitive to your situation.”
