What are window restrictors?
Window restrictors are safety devices fitted to a window frame that stops them from being opened too widely. This helps prevent people from falling out of windows and adds additional security to the home by stopping entry from outside.
Having window restrictors allows windows to be opened for ventilation in your home but removes the risk of anyone falling out and harming themselves.
Children are more at risk around windows and approximately 400 children are harmed by falling from a window each year in the UK.
Tania Emery, Building Safety Director at A2Dominion said: “The safety of our customers is always our number one priority, and we want our buildings to be as safe as they can be. This is why we ensure that we fit window restrictors to all windows in homes that we rent to customers above the first floor, as this helps to prevent injury and helps save lives.
“We want to remind customers not to remove window restrictors if they have them, and to let us know if they need one, or if it’s broken, so we can install one.”
Safe ways to cool your home this summer
Here are some of our top tips to keep your home cool this summer.
Close curtains and windows
It might be tempting to open windows when the temperature rises outside, but this can let the hot air in.
It’s better to open windows slightly during cooler parts of the day, such as the mornings and evenings, while keeping them shut as the day heats up.
It can also help to shade your home from the sun during the day by keeping curtains closed.
Get the most out of a fan
If you’re using a fan in your home, placing a dish of ice in front of it helps cool the air in the room, and adds a cold breeze to the fan.
Remember to keep your fan out of the reach of children and pets.
Keep your doors closed
If you’re using a fan, keeping internal doors closed to rooms you aren’t using helps cool down the area that you are using.
Re-opening internal doors in the evening will then let cooler air circulate to cool down your home.
Requesting a window restrictor
